Pioneered by Dr Hans Jenny in the 1960s, Cymatics uses sound with liquid or granular material to produces striking geometric patterns. There are some beautiful contemporary versions via this link although I suspect that I'll have to try some of my own out to see what kind of visual representation emerges from playing the noise from libraries.
